StyleTyper is a dictation app for your computer made by InkConfetti. You talk, StyleTyper turns your speech into text on your own computer, and types it where your cursor is.
This page says exactly what StyleTyper keeps on your computer, the few times it uses the internet, and what our website keeps. If anything here stops being true, we change this page before we change the software.
The short version
- Your voice and your words never leave your computer. Speech is turned into text on your computer, not on a server
- StyleTyper has no account, no analytics, no advertising and no crash reports
- It goes online only to download the languages and skins you choose, to activate your license, and to check for updates (you can turn that off)
- Activation sends your license key and a random install number, once. Our website keeps the key, the install number and the date
- We do not sell or share your data, and we never use it to train anything
Who is responsible for your data

No EU or UK representative is appointed: the exemption in GDPR Article 27(2) applies (occasional, low-risk processing, no special categories)
What stays on your computer
None of this is sent to us or to anyone else
Your recordings. While you talk, the audio is written to your disk as it arrives, so a crash or a power cut cannot lose your words. When StyleTyper has finished with a dictation, the audio is deleted. By default no audio is kept. You can choose to keep some (Settings, Privacy, "How much audio to keep"), and Settings shows how much space it takes.
Your dictation history. The text of your last 20 dictations is kept so you can find, copy or recover them. You can change the number (Settings, Privacy, "How many transcripts to keep") or delete them all.
Recordings you transcribe. When you drop an audio file into "Transcribe recordings", the file is read on your computer and the text is added to your history. The file itself is not moved or changed.
Your dictionary. Words, spellings and replacements you add, and words StyleTyper learns from your corrections, are saved in your StyleTyper folder.
Learn how you spell words. This setting is on by default. When it is on, StyleTyper reads the text in the window you are writing in, around your cursor, so it can spell names and terms the way you do, and notice when you correct a word it typed. To notice a correction right away, it keeps watching only the text it just typed, in that one window, until your next dictation. It skips password boxes. What it reads is used on your computer and is not stored, except for the words it learns, which go into your dictionary. Before it learns a word, it asks you. You can turn this off in Settings, Privacy.
Your keyboard and mouse. To notice your dictation shortcut (and the key that cancels a dictation, or a mouse button if you choose one), StyleTyper watches the keyboard and mouse on your computer. It reacts only to those shortcuts. It does not record, store or send what you type or click.
The clipboard. If "Save last transcript to clipboard" is on (it is by default), your last dictation is placed on the Windows clipboard so you can paste it again with Ctrl+V. StyleTyper keeps it out of Windows clipboard history.
The diagnostic log. Off by default. If you turn on "Log changes to your text", StyleTyper writes a log file that includes a few words around each change it made to your text. The file stays on your computer. We only see it if you choose to send it to us.
Your license status and free words. StyleTyper keeps its activation and a count of the free words you have used on your computer.
Where it all is. Everything is in one folder in your Windows user profile (under AppData\Local). Settings, Privacy, "Your folder" shows it, with an Open folder button.
Deleting it. Settings, Privacy, "Delete your data" deletes your past dictations, or everything: dictations, dictionary, settings and downloaded languages. Uninstalling StyleTyper and then deleting that folder removes everything. No server holds a copy.
When StyleTyper uses the internet
Only in these three cases. Any request over the internet shows your IP address to the server that answers it. That is how the internet works, and it is true for every case below. We do not use your IP address to identify you.
1. Downloading a language. When you add a language, StyleTyper downloads its speech model from our storage. You start it and you see it. Nothing about you, your voice or your text is sent.
Adding a skin from the shop. When you click "Add to StyleTyper" on our website, StyleTyper downloads that skin from our storage, checks that we signed it, and adds it. Nothing about you, your voice or your text is sent.
2. Activating your license. When you press Activate, StyleTyper sends two things to styletyper.com, once:
- your license key
- an install number that StyleTyper made up at random the first time it ran on this computer. It is not taken from your hardware and says nothing about your computer
Our website answers with an unlock code, which StyleTyper checks and stores on your computer. Nothing else is sent: no name, no email, no computer name, no hardware details. If you name your computer in StyleTyper, that name stays on your computer.
If you prefer, you can activate without StyleTyper contacting us at all: choose "Activate offline", and type your key and install number on our activation page yourself, from any device
3. Checking for updates. If Automatic updates is on (it is by default), StyleTyper asks styletyper.com from time to time whether a newer version exists. It sends only the version number you have. You can turn this off in Settings, Privacy. If an update is offered and you accept it, it is downloaded from styletyper.com.
StyleTyper never sends audio, transcripts, your dictionary, what it reads on screen, or your settings. It has no analytics, no telemetry and no crash reporting, and it never asks you to "help improve" anything.
What our website keeps
License records. For each license key we keep:
- the key
- the date it was issued
- the install number of each computer it was activated on, and the date of the first activation on each
- how many times a computer has been removed from the key
We keep this so your key works, so it works on two computers and no more, and so you can move it to a new computer on our license page. We do not keep the IP address with these records, and we do not keep the key in our web server's access logs.
Your key is linked to your order in our sales records. That means we could connect an activation to a purchase, for example to help you when you write to us. We do not use it to track how, when or where you use StyleTyper, and activation tells us nothing about that.
Buying StyleTyper. License keys are sold only on styletyper.com. Our payment provider, which acts as the seller of record, handles payment and tax. It collects your name, email address, billing country, payment details and the information it needs for tax and fraud checks, and it is responsible for that data under its own privacy notice, which you see at checkout. We receive from it your email address, your country, what you bought, the price and an order number. We use them to send you your license key, to answer you, to handle refunds and to keep the records the law requires. We never see your card number.
If you install StyleTyper from the Microsoft Store, the download is free and Microsoft handles it under its own privacy statement. Microsoft does not sell StyleTyper license keys, and we receive nothing from Microsoft that identifies you, only overall figures such as how many people installed StyleTyper. If you then buy a key, you buy it on our website, as described above.
Email. When you write to us, we keep your email address and what you wrote, so we can answer and follow up.
Visiting styletyper.com. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes your IP address to deliver the pages and protect the site from attacks, and counts visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies. We also count, without cookies, which buttons are clicked and how far pages are read, kept only as daily totals that cannot tell one visitor from another. We also use Google Analytics, to see how visitors find and use the site; Microsoft Clarity, which records how visitors move, click and scroll on our pages, with anything typed hidden, so we can see what to improve; and the Meta pixel, to measure our ads and show them to people who visited. These set cookies and send Google, Microsoft and Meta your IP address and what you do on our pages. Clarity keeps recordings for 30 days. With the same choice, our own site also records how the mouse moves, clicks and scrolls on each page, under a random number that is gone when the page closes, and never anything you type. We keep these records for 30 days. In the European Economic Area, the UK, Switzerland, Brazil, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Quebec they load only if you choose Accept in the cookie window. Elsewhere they load when you visit, unless your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal. You can turn them off any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. The checkout may set cookies that payment needs, under our payment provider's notice.
Why we may use this data (legal bases)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, these are our legal bases under the GDPR:
- To perform our contract with you: issuing and activating your license, moving it between computers, sending your key, updates, support and refunds
- Legal obligation: keeping sales and tax records
- Legitimate interests: keeping the license limit of two computers, preventing abuse of license keys, and keeping our website secure. We keep these to the minimum shown above
We do not use your data for profiling or automated decisions about you. The only advertising use is the Meta pixel on our website, which you can turn off any time
Who else receives it
Only these service providers, and only to do the jobs above:
- Cloudflare hosts our website, the activation service, license records and the language downloads
- Our payment provider sells license keys on our website, as the seller of record, and handles payment and tax
- Our email provider hosts our support mailbox
We do not sell your data. The Meta pixel on our website shares your visit with Meta for advertising; where the law asks for it, only after you accept, and anywhere you can turn it off with Cookie settings. We have never been asked by a government to hand any data over
Some of these providers, and we ourselves, work outside your country, including in the United States. Where the law requires it, the transfer is protected by an adequacy decision or by standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
- License records: for as long as the license exists, so that you can reinstall and reactivate. When a license ends, for example after a refund, we delete its record
- Sales records: 7 years, as tax and accounting law requires
- Support emails: 2 years after the conversation ends
- Website request logs at Cloudflare: we do not keep request logs ourselves. When logging is on for our activation service, Cloudflare keeps those logs for no more than 7 days, its default, and they never include license keys
- On your computer: until you delete it, using the limits you choose in Settings
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- tell you what personal data we hold about you and give you a copy
- correct it
- delete it. If you ask us to delete your license record, your key will no longer activate
- restrict or object to how we use it
- give it to you in a machine-readable form
Write to [email protected]. We answer within one month. Since we hold almost nothing, the answer is usually short. If you are in the EEA or the UK, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
If you live in California or another US state with a privacy law: we do not sell or share personal information, and you have the same rights to know, correct and delete described above
Children
StyleTyper is a general-audience productivity tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13, or under 16 in the EEA. The app itself sends nothing about the person using it. If you believe a child has bought StyleTyper or written to us, contact us and we will delete what we hold.
Security
Requests to styletyper.com use HTTPS only, and StyleTyper refuses plain connections. Downloads are checked against a known fingerprint before they are used. License records hold no names, emails or payment details.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we update it here and change the date at the top. If a change affects what StyleTyper sends from your computer, we will say so in the app's release notes before or when that version is offered, and this page will change first.
