Troubleshooting
Find what you see, and what to do about it
Windows says “Windows protected your PC”
Windows shows this for apps it does not know yet. If you downloaded StyleTyper from styletyper.com, click More info, then Run anyway.
macOS says StyleTyper cannot be opened
Open System Settings › Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway, then confirm. You only do this once.
“No microphone is available”
Windows may be blocking the microphone, or none is plugged in. On Windows, click Open microphone settings, allow access, then come back.
On Linux, check in your Sound settings that the microphone is plugged in and not muted
“StyleTyper didn't hear any speech in that recording”
Check that the right microphone is chosen in Settings, then try again
“The language pack is still downloading”
Open Settings › Languages and check the download. What you said is kept, and Recover Last Dictation types it once the language is ready.
“StyleTyper couldn't type your text”
Your words are safe under Recover Last Dictation in the StyleTyper menu. Open it and paste them where you want.
“About N seconds of that recording could not be read”
Part of the recording was damaged, so those words are missing. The audio is still on your computer under Recover Last Dictation.
The shortcut stops working
Restart StyleTyper. If another program uses the same keys, choose different ones in Settings › Dictation.
On KDE, if you clicked Cancel when KDE asked about Ctrl+Space, set the shortcut again in Settings, or restart StyleTyper, and KDE asks again
“Windows blocked part of StyleTyper from loading”
Your antivirus may be holding part of StyleTyper. Reinstall StyleTyper, or add it to your antivirus exceptions.
“StyleTyper needs one more system part”
This is on Linux. Click Copy command, paste it into a terminal and run it, then open StyleTyper again.
“Couldn't paste it here. It's copied”
Your words are on the clipboard: press Ctrl+V, or Ctrl+Shift+V in a terminal
On Linux this means your desktop did not let StyleTyper type. The next time StyleTyper starts, your desktop asks again. On GNOME, turn on Allow Remote Interaction and click Share. On KDE, click Approve.
“Restart your browser once”
On Linux, StyleTyper asks this once if a browser was already open. Restart it, so StyleTyper can tell when you are in a password field.
“The box in front is a password field”
StyleTyper never types into password boxes. Your words are under Recover Last Dictation
